MAS Design was commissioned by
KeyMed Division of Olympus to conceive, develop and engineer a new operating
table for day surgery use. For a typical day-surgery operation, the patients
are moved from recovery chair to hospital trolley to operating table,
and back again. The process is inefficient and requires the porters, nurses
and doctors to manhandle the patients. This is far from ideal. The Olympus
Chairbed was developed in response to this. It replaces the recovery chair,
trolley and operating table. Beyond these logistical improvements, it
has the following advantages:
> generous x-ray clearance and transparency
> height and angle adjustment (useful for both patient and doctor)
> lightweight and wheelable by one person
> ‘trendellenburg’ facility (head lowering)
> oxygen and IV pole carriage
> versions are available specifically for gynaecology and urology in
order to alleviate problems of poor posture/bad backs common among doctors
in these specialism.
